Language Arts:

Reading comprehension is a child’s ability to understand and interpret written language. Young children demonstrates their reading comprehension by responding to text, retelling stories, and asking and answering questions. Book discussions help young children develop the comprehension, phonological and graphemic skills necessary for reading.

Emergent writing is a child’s ability to convey ideas, thoughts and feelings by using symbols and writing.

A strong vocabulary enables a child to understand and communicate more effectively. Early vocabulary development is an important predictor of success in reading.

Mathematics and Reasoning:

Logic is a child’s ability to use reasoning and problem-solving skills to draw conclusions and find answers to questions.

Problem solving and reasoning are central to mathematic skills and develop through a process of assimilation and accommodation.
